The forums are jam-packed with stories of gamers who have suffered the feared RROD (Red Rings of Death), and the lengths they have gone to to realize an xbox 360 repair. Don’t have faith in the so-called professionals! There are rumours that crooked repair shops are promoting methods that mean your console will have to go to a specialist for a very expensive repair (much more expensive than the original fix for your RROD). There are ultimately four options available:-
1. Send your console back to Microsoft
This, you would believe, would be the best solution…….There are many, many tales of gamers waiting up to eight weeks to receive a repaired unit older than the one they originally sent for repair. And they were the ones still in guarantee. If your warranty has expired, you can expect the same help, but at a price tag of $140. Plus postage.
If you can pass the time this long for your gaming fix, you have a crisis. Stop reading this right away. Go to bed with a nice cup of cocoa.
2. Undertake the ‘towel’ or ‘resoldering’ systems
Microsoft use the services of thousands of engineers. I’m an engineer. Believe me you will not fix your xbox by wrapping a towel around it. It is more likely to roast and burst into flames, taking your towel with it.That’s just silly.
As I said – I’m an engineer. An electrical engineer. There is no way on this earth I would start prodding around within my xbox with a soldering iron. There are thousands of complex solder joints inside an xbox, and all those bits were soldered on under laboratory conditions. Dirt free as it may be, your kitchen table is not a multi-million dollar production facility. Don’t do it.
3. Buy a brand new console.
You will be gaming again promptly (but for how long?), and you will have inherited a very expensive doorstop / paperweight in the form of your previous xbox.
4. Use common tools and high definition video advice from experts, to fix it yourself.
Your console can be mended, by you, using easily available gear. In less than two hours.
There are some things you need to accomplish this. You need very accurate video footage and descriptions, that you can pause and watch again, to make sure you do it right. It isn’t difficult, it’s just defined. You need top notch assistance, so if you’re not 100% sure, you can ask and somebody will get back to you. Someone who has mended hundreds of consoles before….
And, if all else fails and if you cannot get your RROD repair to work, you need a no nonsense money back undertaking…..
And if you learn how to fix a xbox, you could make a few dollars doing it yourself.
