Can I Play European Games on My American Wii?

I was thinking of importing a game called Xenoblade Chronicles, which is not released in America as of today. I was wondering if I were to import it, would it work on my North American Wii?

I think some homebrew allows you to play region-locked games, but you can't do it through conventional means.
