Can My Japanese Nintendo Wii Be Soft Modded?

I have a imported Japanese Will from Japan. It plays both Japanese and American games. The menu and icons are in Japanese. I cant change it, but when I play a American game, it plays it in english. Here's my question, I was told that it I was to soft modd my Wii, it will fix that problem. Can my system be soft modded. If it can, will the menu be in english? Please let me know. Thanx!!
