How Do I Play American Bought Games on a Wii Console Bought in Asia?

My dad bought a Wii console from the Philippines. He was told that updating it would screw up the settings and wouldn't be able to play the games he also bought with it. I bought Mario Galaxy in the US and it worked fine, but when I try to play Wii Fit or the new Super Mario Brothers, it says I need to update the console. Would it screw it up if I update? Is there any way around this so I can still play my old games? I have Version 3.2u.

The odd thing is that my uncle also bought it at the same place like a year before us and his is version 3.4u and the wii fit works fine on his without updating

Additional Details
Someone told me something about the Homebrew Channel and Gecko OS, but I wanted a little more feedback because this is the information I found when looking into it

First I read that Updating to version 3.4 deletes the Homebrew Channel

And Second. I read that only wii versions below 4.0 can use homebrew, but if I update my system won't it update to the most recent version which is like 4.2 or something?

Can anyone give me an alternate solutions?

Answer:

Yes homebrewchannel is the solution – that will make your wii region free/play games from all over the world. It has been updated to work on all current wii system menus, just follow this guide: http://www.howtomodyourwii.com
