Fortunately, all is not lost. Once you have gotten over the initial shock of your Xbox 360 dying on you, there are ways to bring it back to life so to speak that will hopefully enable you to get back to that game for a few more hours. By following these helpful tips you may be able to get a bit more life out of your console yet, and hopefully avoid having to send it off for repair.
OK, here we go. Because the problem is an overheating issue, there are things you can do to help cool your system down so that you can get back to GTA IV, GOW2, or whatever. First, unplug your Xbox 360 and let it cool down for at least 2 hours. I have seen others recommend less than that but doing so will only reduce the amount of time you may get to play your games again.
Next, examine where your Xbox 360 is located. Can it breath? Is it situated near a radiator or some other heating device? Is it near, or on top of other electrical devices such as a satellite box, DVD player etc? Is it in a confined space? These are all questions you have to consider because the Xbox 360 has a design flaw that makes it unstable when there is too much heat!
I found that in my case, I had to make sure that the Xbox 360 was on its own in an unconfined space, and as far away from our central heating system as possible. I was then able to play for months without a hiccup until I finally had to get it repaired.
The last tip is probably one you don’t want to hear, but I will tell you anyway. Don’t play for hours on end, as that is just asking for trouble. I know some guys who almost play around the clock, but they are also on their sixth Xbox 360! So don’t over do it. You may find that playing just for a couple of hours, then taking a couple of hours off may do the trick. This of course will take some self control, especially if you are used to playing for 5 or 6 hours on the trot. However, you will find that your Xbox 360 will last longer as a result.
