Answer:
Australia Wiis use the European firmware version. Check by going to Wii->Settings and read the number in the upper right. It should say something like 4.3E. The E means Europe.
US, Canada, the rest of the americas, and a few other places use the USA version (ie, 4.3U).
Canadian games aren't in your region. But if you go to www.wiibrew.org and install the HomeBrew Channel and then GeckoOS, you can use GeckoOS to play your canadian games. It's free, but a little bit of work. Instructions on wiibrew.org are pretty clear, though.
