having owned both consoles, its down to what your friend groups own and how often you are going to use it, they both have pros and cons too them it just depends what you want out of your console
Xbox 360:
pro's: msn included, lots of exclusive demo's/betas, free headset included
Con's: have to pay for internet, have to pay for wireless connector, no 3d as of yet (i dont think)
PS3:
Pro's: great graphics, hundreds of good games, free internet connectivity
Con's: have to pay for a lot of accessories, games tend to be more expensive
i have ended up selling my 360 because i felt it wasnt paying £5 a month for internet when i wasnt using it half the time
The 360 is more for online gamers.

The graphics are a little better in some games. In some games the PS3 is better. the frame rate is always good though whereas the PS3 isn't.

Iv got both, i would say get the ps3, but get the xbox if all of your friends play it, yer you have pay about £40.00 a year for live, but it is worth it.
I would recommend the PS3 but the only bad thing with it is that you can't get Halo
You can still get all the CoD's though!
