Suggestion:
Okay right now i would get him a wii but later he will need a xbox. So u have to worry about that. Then just get him an xbox with kinect so he can use kinect now and later he can use the xbox for real games!

get him a wii because the console is way more kiddish than any other in the market. xbox 360 if he plays hardcore games which include blood, gore, sexual themes, and nudity. in my opinion get him a ps3 320gb move bundle because than way he wouldn't be lying on the bed and just move his hand. in move you can use the controller to play games like table tennis(ping pong) , archery etc. ps3 also has a blu ray player which you will definitely love. get him little big planet 2 if you're getting a ps3 or buy new super mario bros wii if you're getting a wii and definitely get 3 more controllers with the console because then he can play with his friends and with you in multiplayer form.
Get him an xbox, and get him a war game, like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Even though he's young he'll love the action in it!
i guess he is mature enough for a xbox, and i even know the best game for him!

I would say xbox because I'm 12 and it is great. But if your son is 5 then I would definitely go for a wii because it is more user/kid friendly. Your child will have more fun with a wii.
