Xbox Live is an Xbox-ONLY feature. Unlike Wii or Sony, Microsoft from day 1 has required people to purchase only play access, called Xbox Live. When the 360 came out, they offered 2 levels so they could still send updates to those who didn't want to pay to play online: Silver (Free) and Gold (pay). Only with Xbox Live Gold can you play online with friends. Currently, it is $49. However, I recently read a story that this will increase to $60 in the near future.
You are totaly messed up. Xbox Live is only for the Xbox360 (It used to be for the original xbox but it was discontinued a while back).
