Why Does My Wii Gaming Console Say This?

I got a Game Cube game and I put it in and it said that it cannot read the disk. I have the controller and I know that the Wii can play Game Cube games. I was just wondering if I was doing something wrong or if I was missing something in this whole process.

I bought it used if that helps at all.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Suggestion:

Maybe the disk is scratched or the disk reader is messed up
