Suggestion:
I think it's because they added more features to the game 
it has surfing, weather (rain), multiplayer, wifi, you can swim on the beach, etc… hope I helped

That sounds about right. I'm not quite sure what their reasoning was. I was waiting on the wii version myself. I became frustrated that it was delayed.
