Disc Scratch Destroyed My Game!?

My wii game has a scratch on the center circle and when I play it, it starts up but when it gets to the opening screen there is no sound and then it freezes and says "the game disc could not be read please refer to the wii manual" My disc is pretty much destroyed right? Nintendo said it cost 35$ to repair so if that's the case I will but it'd be helpful if anyone could give me ideas for fixing a scratched disc.
