For the past few months, my Nintendo Wii has switched from working fine to not being able to read any discs. When I insert a disc it tells me it is unable to read the disc, and to eject it. I know I am putting it in the right way. Once in awhile it will be able to read the disc, and there will be no problems for awhile.
I plan on purchasing a cleaning kit for the Wii. Gamestop sells one.
When I do put the disc it wrong it says—"Unable to read disc…" or I get an error basically telling me to eject the disc, turn the Wii off, etc. Nine of ten times it can't read the disc, even if I put it in right.
If I need to get it repaired, what is the cost these days? How does Nintendo work when it comes to payment?
Suggestion:
I had a very similar problem this year. I also purchased my Wii in 2007. Around December my Wii stopped reading discs. I found that if you insert the disc very fast and immediately click the Play Window, it would sometimes work. Although, I knew I had to send it in eventually.
Anyways, I sent my Wii in to Nintendo, they sent me a new one back – all for 75$. Although, my Wii was under warranty. I'm not sure what the price is to get it repaired if you're not under warranty – but you should know: you're not the only one with this problem. I did research back when my Wii was broken and I saw that quite a few people had the same problem.
You can try the Cleaning Disk, but I'm fairly certain it won't work.
You should be able to find the prices of the Nintendo website. It was two weeks from the time I sent it in to the time I got it back.
I hope everything turns out all right. Best of luck!
