Rumours are flashing around the net that next xbox will be launched during Q4 2012, many insiders from microsoft have told this plus 6 months ago crytek said the same thing, recently next xbox is codenamed as loop . Also crytek said that they are working on timesplitters 2 which is a next gen game, plus developers like ubisoft and dice have stated the problem of outdated gpu, and less ram in current console so they are demanding for next gen consoles, so chances are likely plus nintendo announced wii u which adds more pressure for sony and microsoft
6 months ago microsoft hired a lot of employees stating "employees required for next gen development". During 2011 march rumours started flashing about wii u but nintendo denied this but on june they announced wii u. In an recent interview Sony said that they will launch their next console immediately after microsoft launches theirs that proves that if microsoft launches xbox 720 next year sony will launch next year or suring 2013 beginning.
Though developers said that ps3 and xbox 360 will have 10 year life cycle that doesnt mean they have to end their current gen . microsoft developer said that xbox 720 and 360 may overlap. ps3 launched on 2006 but after ps3's launch ps2's price reduced and ps2 was still selling steadily so bringing next gen wont affect the sales of ps3 or 360.
What I expect from Wii U:
1. More launchup titles
2. More No. of 3rd party exclusives
3. More No. of 1st party exclusives
4. Better online connectivity
5. Powerful Hardware
What i expect from Xbox 720:
1. More No. of launch up titles
2. Built in and advanced motion gaming
3. More No. of exclusives
4. More No. of motion gaming titles
5. Powerful hardware
6. Bluray media
7. Avatar like graphics
8. Problem free such as rrod and tons of error
9. Stable console
10. minimum of 2 models at launch
11. It should have portable controller like wii u's controller

I will go with PS4 because im familiar with ps3 exclusive titles but my decision may or may not change after consoles launch
I would get WiiU because It has Nintendo games and AAA/hardcore games… PS4 is rumored to be barely more powerful than PS3 so it will appeal to casuals with a cheap price tag. Also Avatar took a studio of very powerful computers to make. That isn't coming to PC's for at least 10 years and consoles for 12… Not sure why anyone believes that really. then only single computer that could handle graphics liek that is Watson the super computer with 2880 cores… it would need like 50 powerful GPU's too.

PS4 for me – it will come out after xbox 720 or what ever it will be called to make sure it kicks its *** again, and as xbox has just released a "HUGE" update ahahaha (on demand and movie features) just to catch up on the PS3 so I dout any new consoles will be out soon!!
Plus I dout any of these consoles will be released until 2013 – 14 at the earliest I might be wrong but there is no need for new consoles at the moment!!
Oh and whats a wii?!?! =P
PS4 for me. Not sure what could be so different about it though, more storage, better processers. Whatever Microsoft do, Sony will hang back and bring out something better to ensure they outsell it. Took a while last time because as you say PS2 was still selling well, infact it was outselling both of them at one point but then Sony won't mind that. I believe PS3 is now outselling X-Box. Not interested in the Wii in the slightest, never have been.
