The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King: The capital of Gondor is under attack, and the battle for Middle Earth is on. Sauron, the dark one, is gaining power, and his victory seems certain. Gandalf and the other fight on with the only hope lying in the efforts of two little Hobbits. Frodo, and his lifelong friend Sam are battling their way to Mount Doom in order to destroy the One Ring, the ring that give Sauron his great power. Their success or failure will determine the fate of Middle Earth.
No Love for Johnnie: Civilized research of congressmen who cares only in regards to winning the ballot. Cast includes Peter Finch, Stanley Holloway, Mary Peach, Mervyn Johns, Donald Pleasence, Dennis Cost, and Oliver Reed. (110 minutes, 1961)
Follow the Fleet: Admirable musical with sai;or Astaire and Scott courting siblings Rogers and Hilliard. Irving Berlin melodies contain “Let’s Face the Music and Dance,” “Let Yourself Go,” “We Noticed the Ocean.” A revising of Beach Leave, a 1925 Richard Barthelmess flick, and the 1930 film Hit the Deck. The Prince and the Showgirl: Fairly good but slow moving comedy of saucy American show gal Monroe being courted by Prince Regent of Carpathia (Olivier) throughout the 1911 coronation of George V. Filmed in England, with admirable performances by Monroe and Olivier. Cast includes Laurence Olivier, Sybil Thorndike, Jeremy Spencer, and Richard Wattis. (117 minutes, 1957)
Across the Universe: A young English boy comes to the US to find his father. On his search he finds, and falls in love with an American girl. Set in post Vietnam War US, this movie is really a vehicle to play a lot of Beatles music. Cast includes Julie Taymor. Evan Rachel Wood. Jim Sturgess, Joe Anderson, Dana Fuchs, Martin Luther McCoy. T. V. Carpio, Spencer Litf, Lisa Hogg, Bill Irwin, James Urbaniak, Dylan Baker, Joe Cocker, Bono, Salma Hayek, and Eddie Izzard all make appearances. (2007 Romance)
Adios, Sabata: A gunslinger becomes involved with Mexican revolutionaries. He helps himself to a box full of gold during the voyage. Adios Sabata (with Brynner rather than Lee Van Cleef) was titled Indio Black till dubbed and re-titled for U.S. viewing. Cast includes Yul Brynner, Dean Reed, Pedro Sanchez, and Gerard Herter.
