A Popular American Author’s Books That Were Turned into Films

Ever since 1989, John Grisham has been a much loved American novelist. Focusing generally on legal fiction, his books have sold over 250 million copies globally. In 1997, “The Rainmaker” starring Matt Damon as a brand new attorney who takes on the litigation of a boy turned down for medical treatment by a powerful insurance company. In 1998, the only movie from Grisham that was based upon an unpublished manuscript was released, “The Gingerbread Man” starring Kenneth Branagh and Robert Downey, Jr.

Of the four non-legal fiction stories by Grisham, 2 have been turned into movies, “A Painted House” in 2003 and the holiday favorite, “Christmas with the Kranks” starring Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis and adapted from the story “Skipping Christmas”.

“The Runaway Jury” came out in 2003. This film starred Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman, John Cusack and Rachel Weisz. Grisham’s twenty-first book, “The Associate”, just released as a book in January 2009, will be released as a picture in 2012.
