The Wrath of the Lich King expansion introduced the Inscription profession, allowing for the creation of spell augmentations called Glyphs. While this was nothing less than a smashing success with veterans of the game, new players were left with yet another item to scratch their heads over.
Well, I’m of the opinion that newbies have more than enough guesswork to fret over when starting out in this game, and as such, I’d like to help out by passing along the major glyphs I used to level my most recent character, a fire mage.
Glyph of Fireball – This is easily your best choice for a first major glyph. Fireball is your bread and butter spell for leveling, and composes a great deal of your damage. The glyph adds an extra 5% chance to crit in exchange for removing the decidedly weak damage-over-time component of the spell. This is a more than fair trade. Pick it up and slot it as soon as you can.
Glyph of Improved Scorch – I picked this one up next, and I suggest you do the same. It applies a full stack of the Improved Scorch debuff, which means you’ll actually get to take advantage of it without being in a group! An extra 5% chance to crit is a pretty easy call.
Glyph of Frostfire Bolt – Since you don’t unlock your last major glyph until level 80, I figured it would make sense to allocate it to one of your strongest spells at level 80. 2% damage and 2% critical strike chance makes this spell even more useful than it already is.
There you have it. Those are the glyphs that took my fire mage from 1-80. If you would like to see the talents I used, my personal mage leveling build that I used to level up can be found on my website at the link included below.
