Sin City: Sin City is a place not for the faint of heart. The streets are filled with vigilantes, crooked cops, and sexy women. Unique and brilliant cinematography and special effects create a perfect atmosphere for this world. Mickey Roarke and Bruce Willis star in this violent action thriller.
Sour Grapes: Bierko hits a $400,000 slot machine jackpot at a casino; Weber, his physician blood brother, imagines he’s owed half the loot because he loaned him the mandatory quarters. Infrequently extremely ludicrous, the film is sabotaged by overemphatic “comedy” performing, unsympathetic characters, and a sitcom approach. Writer-director David co-created Seinfeld, which clarifies both the excellent and the poor stuff here. Delta Farce: 3 stupid army reservists, informed they are being sent to Iraq, are as an alternative dropped into the Mexican desert, where Larry and his friends Everett and Bill evidently Moe and Curly were unavailable go into motion contrary to corrupt police that they blunder for Middle Eastern terrorists. Give this mind-numbingly dumb trip points for creativity: it’s possibly the first and with any luck last lame-brained comedy to try milking snickers from replicated references to Shiites and Kurds! Cast includes Larry the Cable Man, Bill Engvall, DJ Qualls, Keith David, Danny Trejo, Marisol Nichols, and Glenn Morshower. (90 minutes, 2007)
A la Mode: Lighthearted French comedy of an adolescent orphan who gets to be apprentice to a tiny village’s tailor, only to crack into the style planet of the ’60s. If the remainder of the film were as clever as the clothes there may be more than suggested. Cast includes Remy Duchemin, Ken Higelin, Jean Yanne, Francois Hautesserre, and Florence Challenge. Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Cute variance on vampire legends, with high school Valley Gal Swanson turning out to be “the selected one” of her generation to slaughter wandering vampires. Sutherland is superlative as her mentor and guide, and Reubens the prior Pee-wee Herman is fun as one of the fanged bullies. Look for Ben Affleck as a basketball competitor. Cast includes Kristy Swanson, Donald Sutherland, Paul Reubens, Rutger Hauer, Luke Perry, and Gregson Wagner. (86 minutes, 1992)
So Close: Two siblings, ostensibly ultra-tech pc surveillance operators, are secretly assassins decimating a murderously corrupt business outfit by outfit. Quarreling tooth and nail with gun and sword, they’re countered by a shrewd policewoman equally skilled in martial crafts. Wonderful-gaudy action set pieces far outplay the inter personals in this hack Charlie’s Life savers wannabe. Cast includes Zhao Wei, Karen Mok, Melody Seung Hun, Michael Wai, Yasuaki Kurata, and Derek Wan. (111 minutes, 2002)
Proof: A blind skeptic who hastily shoots photos of everything is perversely exploited by the housekeeper who’d like to bed him. Definitely made film is successfully cold, cut to the bone and comparable to The Servant. Cast includes Hugo Knitting, Genevieve Picot, Russell Crow~, Heather Mitchell, Jeffrey Stroller, and Blunt Gallacher. (91 minutes, 1992)
The Great Lover: Vintage Wish; Bob’s a boy-scout leader on transport filled with his troop, luscious Fleming, and killer Youthful. Cast includes Bob Wish, Rhonda Fleming, Roland Youthful, Roland Culver, George Reeves, and Jim Backus. (80 minutes, 1949)
A Bug’s Life: Great energized characteristic from Pixar office of Toy Tale popularity, in reference to a well meaning ant identified Flick who tries to help his beleaguered colony from the pillaging of Basket and his grasshopper cronies. Meaning to employ hard insects to quarrel them off, he unwittingly initiates a carnival troupe as an alternative! Dependably witty and ludicrous; actually, spilling with gags and graphic notions. Cast includes Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Kevin Spacey, Phyllis Diller, David Hyde Perforate, Denis Leary, Richard Kind, Madeline Kahn, Bonnie Seek, Edie McClurg, and Alex Rocco. (94 minutes, 1998)
