King of Jazz: Million dollar musical revue, shot in 2-color Technicolor format, is filled with bigger-than-life production numbers and remarkable melodies. Highlights contain Walter Lantz’s animation pattern, Joe Venuti’s swing violin, youthful Bing Crosby with the Tempo Boys, and, obviously, Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” which in early Technicolor is more a rhapsody in turquoise. Cast includes Paul Whiteman and His Orchestra, John Boles, Jeanette Loff, The Tempo Boys Bing Crosby, Al Rinker, and Harry Barris. (93 minutes, 1930)
Meet The Spartans: This is an outrageous spoof of the epic movie 300. Wearing leather underwear and capes, 13 Spartans will take on the Persian army. The Spartans will have to battle the like of: Ghost Rider, Rocky, Paris Hilton, and many more.
Staircase: Stun value of Burton and Harrison as a gay couple was all this film had going for it in 1969, and nothing has changed as long as then, with the exception of increased viewer interest. Dudley Moore configured the score. Cast includes Richard Burton, Rex Harrison, Cathleen Nesbitt, and Beatrix Lehmann. (100 minutes, 1969)
Shadow Magic: In what might be hailed Chinese Paradise, the earliest days of China’s film industry are depicted in this tale of a travelling Englishman. His show named “shadow voodoo” marvels and clashes all around as it turns the camcorder’s eye on individuals who see themselves and their nation in a totally new way. Admirable view of early-20th-century China and the lifestyle bridging consequence only films appear to accomplish. Cast includes Jared Harris, Xia Yu, Xing Yufei, Liu Peiqi, and Lu Liping. Good Guys Wear Black: Norris hops feet first through a windshield and proceeds to rearrange the face of bellman Backus, all in the name of nationwide security. Stupid political paranoia thriller passes time effortlessly enough. Cast includes Chuck Norris, Anne Archer, James Franciscus, Lloyd Haynes, Dana Andrews, and Jim Backus.(100 minutes, 1979)
