High Templars are from the Protoss, and you can use them to inflict serious psionic damage to support your other units. They are primarily a support class but they are priceless when used properly. You should use them as best as you can.

What High Templars Are Good Against
You can use High Templars against a few kinds of units to amazing effect, such as Marines, Sentries, and Stalkers / Hydralisks. They are great against these because the Psionic Storm just wipes them out when they’re grouped together.
Counters to High Templars
Some terrible counters that you should avoid at all costs are Ghosts, Colossi, Zealots, and Roaches. These are heavy and can withstand your High Templar’s attacks, and that’s going to be an issue when you try and keep them alive.
A Quick Build Order & How to Use Them In A Rush
At your 9th supply you should build a Pylon, followed by a Gateway at your 13th supply.
At 14 you should begin getting Gas by getting an Assimilator up, and at 15 build another Pylon. Then around 16 you should get a Cybernetics core, and at 17 keep on getting gas.
You should then research the Psionic Storm ability from the Templar Archives and start pumping them out.
Remember that they are really good against lighter units and worse against heavier ones, so you should aim to defeat their early packs of units first. This is good for you because normally people will amass a lot of these lighter units earlier on, so you can wipe them out. Keep on protecting your High Templars, though, because once they are surrounded they’re as good as dead.
