The archetypal fifth member – the Shamans are the support members of any team since they are excellent healers plus they are also capable of hurling damaging offensive attacks from a distance. Although they can originally act as tanks, they are now limited to dealing damage and healing since they have no access to heavy plate armors which could have enhanced their survivability as well as tanking abilities.
{Shaman Races}
Shamans were once a Horde-only class, the opposite of the Alliance-only magic-wielding class, the Paladins. Before the Burning Crusade, the Shamans were only available to the Trolls, Taurens, and Orcs. Those playing the Draenei can now roll any Shaman build.
{Shaman Builds}
The Shaman talent trees are divided into three distinct talent trees – Enhancement, Elemental, and Restoration. Shamans are primarily a spell-casting class that uses magic to bring down their foes, although they could also deal damage within melee range when geared towards the Enhancement build.
The first Shaman build is the Elemental Shaman which is the DPS caster of the class. Two of the most important talents this type of Shaman wields are the Thunderstorm, which is infamous for sending opponents to their graveyards, and the Elemental Mastery, which helps Shamans cast spells without so much downtime.
For leveling, the Enhancement Shaman is the best route to go. This is the build that ranks third in dual-wielding, next only to the Fury Warriors and the Rogues. It is also the build that is geared towards melee combats.
Although lacking in solid damage-wielding abilities, the Restoration Shaman is still by all means a force to reckon with in the battlefield. Its focus, however, is in casting spells and buffs for healing their allies. When in PvP, the Restoration Shaman is a very sought-after character since it could extend the survivability of any group with its totems and healing spells.
Despite the differences in the combination of talents for each build, it is good to remember though that each build shares the same basic healing, damage dealing and spell casting abilities of the class.
{Shaman’s Abilities}
The totems are what make this class distinct from other classes. Each of the totem the Shamans use correspond to the four elemental forces in WoW – the Earth, Fire, Water and Wind.
{Shaman’s Spells}
The Shamans are by nature a spell-casting class that uses the power of the elements to bring down their foes and support their allies. Their spells include heals, weapons buffs, and damage spells to name a few.
{Shaman’s Weapons, Gears, and Armors}
The Shamans, though occasionally lacking in offensive skills, are nevertheless the perfect support members. They are greatly limited to healing and damaging abilities unlike before when they were good at tanking as well. Their tanking abilities have been further diminished by their limitations in the armory. They compensate in the weapons department though since they have supreme dual-wielding abilities and their use of two-handed weapons.
