Help, my AV channels are in black and white?

Whenever I played a DVD in my DVD player before, it'd play in colour, but recently they've started playing in black and white, and so have my Wii games. My DVD player has also stopped working completely (ie, the tray won't open, it won't turn off properly).

I'm using a Sanyo television and a Samsung DVD player. Any ideas?

Suggestion:

As Ben says your TV has probably set itself to NTSC. Go to the menu and put it back to PAL and that should solve that problem. If the DVD player has stopped working I'd take it back to get repaired, or, if it's quite old just buy a new one. They cost next to nothing these days

It sounds to me as though you have accidentally changed the video mode on your TV. Make sure it is set to PAL mode and not NTSC (since you are in Australia).

The NTSC format is used in North America and uses a different technique for recording colour information. As a result, you lose colour information if you try and play PAL video on an NTSC TV or vice versa.

This problem has no connection with the DVD tray or power issues though.
