How to Softmod Wii Without Cd Games N Stuff?

i searched everywhere but i cant find out how to softmod wii. is softmodding wii just installing homebrew or do u need to mod it in order to install homebrew? plz help im very confused. tutorials/links wud be great! n most u have to pay plz make sure its free

Suggestion:

if you on a 4.2 or prior, do not update. 4.3 can be hacked but it's different. you need to install hbc (homebrew) before any hacking can be done. then depending on what system menu you have, depend on the steps that need to be taken. basically, 3.1-4.1 are the same, 4.2 and 4.3 are different. read carefully and follow to the letter and you'll be fine.
