Can I Use a Classic Nintendo Wii Controller to Play a Gamecube Game on Wii?

i want to play mario kart double dash on my nintendo wii. Can i buy a classic wii controller (not the remote one) to play the gamecube game, or do i need an actual gamecube controller for it to work?

Suggestion:

GameCube games will not use the Wii Controller in any way. You have to have GameCube controllers into the GameCube controller ports of your Wii.

And of course if you have one of the newer Wiis that do not have GameCube ports, you cannot play GameCube games on them at all.

You cannot use a classic controller since the controller was designed after the game. you need the gamecube controller.
