Suggestion:
with an SD card (and 100% unmodded wii) you can:
- view photos in the photo channel
- listen to music (.aac format) in the photo channel
- copy or move channels to the SD card (to free up space on your Wii's internal mem.)
- download games from the Wii shop channel directly to your SD card (again, to save internal mem space).

You can view photos on it and save channels on it.
If you softmod your wii, you can do many more things such as homebrew channel because there are lots and lots of apps.
You can view photos in the Photo Channel, I am not sure about videos since I've never tried it. The Photo Channel allows you to take a picture and do many things like change it to black and white or draw on it, basically customizing it the way you want it to look. You can also make pictures into puzzles too. I hoped this helped.
