Suggestion:
The expansion pack for the Nintendo 64 was an upgrade to the system's RAM, allowing the graphics of some games to be presented much smoother. The N64 had 4MB of RAM originally and that upgraded to 8MB with the expansion pack. The Nintendo Wii has well over 8MB of RAM and thus – does not need an expansion pack. That's why games that USED to need the expansion pack in the 64 can be put on the Wii's virtual console – the Wii doesn't need an expansion pack.
Now about DK 64 coming to the VC – I don't know. It's possible because as I just said – the Wii doesn't need an expansion pack..but I don't know if they have plans to release it on the VC.
I hope they do, it was a great game!

What misinformed person said it won't come out because of an expansion pack?
The purpose of the expansion pack was to increase the N64's ram from 4 MB to 8MB. The Wii has plenty of memory for an N64 game, and even if it didn't SD cards have 256 MB (and thats a small one).
There are more logical reasons as to why it hasn't been released (such as it was developed by Rare, who is now owned by Microsoft).
